The Western Australian Labor Party was established by a trade union congress, held in Coolgardie in 1899. Representatives of trades and labor councils from around the State agreed to the formation of a political party to protect the interests of workers.
In 1903, WA Labor became a state branch of the Australian Labor Federation.
