Yaz Mubarakai has been a Labor Party Member of the Western Australia Legislative Assembly for Jandakot since 2017.
Following Labor's win in the 2021 state election, he became the Parliamentary Secretary to Tony Buti (Minister for Finance, Lands, Sport & Recreation, Citizenship & Multicultural Interests) under the McGowan government. He remains a parliamentary secretary to Dr Buti in the 2022 cabinet reshuffle, with Dr Buti as Minister for Education; Aboriginal Affairs; Citizenship and Multicultural Interests.
Following the resignation of Mr McGowan in June 2023, Mr Mubarakai kept his portfolio as Parliamentary Secretary to Tony Buti (Minister for Education, Aboriginal Affairs, Citizenship & Multicultural Interests) under the Cook government.
Mr Mubarakai emigrated to Australia in 1997 and was a former councillor at the City of Cockburn. He owns a cafe, take-away outlets and the post office at Cockburn Gateway.
