Varun Ghosh has a wide-ranging legal practice that focuses on commercial, construction, infrastructure and financial disputes; as well as equity, administrative law and constitutional law.
Prior to joining the Bar in 2018, Mr Ghosh was a senior associate in the disputes team of King & Wood Mallesons where he represented banks, resources companies and construction companies in a range of commercial disputes. He was also a legal consultant at the World Bank in Washington where he advised on global financial stability policy and insolvency law reform; and an associate in the banking team at White & Case LLP in New York where he acted for a range of banks, private equity groups and borrowers in relation to leveraged finance transactions.
Mr Ghosh has also taught Administrative and Constitutional Law at the University of Western Australia.
In January 2024, Mr Ghosh became the Senator for Western Australia. He has been a member of the WA Labor Party since he was 17, when his parents moved from India to Perth.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Law (First Class Honours) from the University of Western Australia; and a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge where he studied on a Frank Downing Law Scholarship.
