Peter Tinley AM is a minister in the McGowan Labor government which won office in 2017. He initially held the portfolios of Housing, Veterans Issues, and Youth. In December 2019, Mr Tinley swapped the Youth portfolio and took over the Fisheries portfolio. He entered parliament in 2009 after being elected a Labor Party Member of the Legislative Assembly for Willagee. Mr Tinley lost all portfolios following the 2021 state election, and announced his intention to retire from politics at the 2025 state election.
Before entering politics, he was managing director of mine services company R2R Services and a member of the Special Air Services regiment. Mr Tinley joined the Australian Army in 1981 and graduated from Royal Military College in Duntroon, earning the Queen's Medal as the cadet graduating top of his class.
In 2003, he was awarded Member of the Order of Australia in the military division for dynamic leadership and consistent professional excellence.
