WA potentially failed in its bid to host a regular season National Football League game due to the distance of travel from the US, premier Roger Cook says.
Roger Cook is the Labor Party Member of the Western Australia Legislative Assembly for Kwinana.
He was the Deputy Premier; and the Minister for Health, Medical Research, State Development, Jobs & Trade, and Science under the McGowan government, following Labor's win in the 2017 state election. In the December 2021 cabinet reshuffle, Mr Cook relinquished the Health & Medical Research portfolios, and took over Tourism & Commerce portfolios. He then relinquished the Commerce portfolio and took on Hydrogen Industry in the 2022 cabinet reshuffle.
Following the resignation of Mr McGowan in June 2023, Mr Cook became the 31st Premier of Western Australia and the Minister for State & Industry Development, Jobs & Trade, Public Sector Management, and Federal-State Relations.
Prior to Labor's state election win in March 2017, he was Deputy Leader of the Opposition and the Shadow Minister for Health & Science.
Before entering politics, Mr Cook was a public relations consultant. He had been involved in student politics, serving as the first president of the National Union of Students.
