Simon Trott has been with Rio Tinto since 2000 and has held a wide variety of commercial, operating, finance and business development roles across a number of commodities. Prior to overseeing all of Rio Tinto’s commercial relationships from Singapore, he was its salt, uranium & borates managing director where he oversaw operations in Australia (uranium and salt), Namibia (uranium), the US (borates) and a development project in Serbia (lithium and borates). Mr Trott then became chief commercial officer in January 2018 prior to taking on the role of iron ore chief executive in March 2021.
Mr Trott was a 2007 Business News 40under40 award winner.
He holds a Bachelor of Agriculture from the University of Western Australia, a Graduate Diploma in Finance & Investment (FINSIA), and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
