The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in Western Australia provides aero medical and primary health care to all corners of Western Australia's 2.5 million square kilometre geography.
The RFDS in WA has 5 operating facilities located in Jandakot, Kalgoorlie, Meekatharra, Port Hedland and Broome with an aircraft fleet of 17 PC-12 turboprop aircraft, two Rio Tinto LifeFlight PC-24 jet aircraft, and two EC145 aeromedical helicopters.
The RFDS service assists almost 70,000 people across Western Australia every year through aero medical retrievals and transfers, remote healthcare clinics and our telehealth service.
The RFDS is made up of seven legal entities operating around Australia, under a federated structure, and working together under a joint venture agreement. WA is serviced by the RFDS Western Operations (RFDSWO) entity, with one RFDSWO board member representing WA on the national RFDS federation board.
In June 2019, RFDSWO was awarded the Mal Bryce WA Tech Company of the Year at the WAITTA INCITE awards for the fit-out and performance of its new Pilatus PC-24 jets.
