Visionary medico wins 40under40
This year’s First Amongst Equals winner is a passionate medical specialist but he’s also a visionary entrepreneur who has a lot in common with successful business leaders.
Former Rhodes Scholar Dr Angus Turner completed medical training at the University of WA in 2000, before specialising in Ophthalmology which took him over East and to Oxford University.
In 2010, he returned to Perth to establish Lions Outback Vision - a unit providing specialist eye health services in regional and remote communities. Dr Turner is on a mission to cure blindness in indigenous Australians. As he says, “94% of all vision loss is preventable or treatable.”
Dr Turner is the winner in the Professions Award category of the 2019 Western Australian Of The Year Awards.

Reigning 40under40 winner Angus Turner has welcomed an investment of almost $4 million into the Lions Eye Institute and pledged to use the funds to implement a new mobile eye healthcare service for use in the state’s most remote regions.
