As Associate Professor at UWA, Dr Peter Santa Maria is a clinician scientist with a focus on translational medicine and commercialising medtech and biopharma. Originally from Perth where he completed his surgical training and PhD, he returned from three years on faculty at Stanford University to Perth in 2015 to become a founder of SPARK Co-Lab, a medical research discovery and innovation accelerator affiliated with Stanford in Perth. He is a founder of two medical start-ups, Flotherm, a medical device company and Auration Biotech, an ear pharmaceutical company. He continues to consult for a number of Bay Area and Australian medical start-ups
