Callum Ormonde sprang to international fame in 2015 when his research work on unpacking proteins to help cancer patients also demonstrated how you could unboil an egg. Based at UWA and the Harry Perkins Institute, his discovery was lauded by Fortune and Time magazines as “a financial boon to the biotech industry”, with serious benefits in medicine, environmental and industrial science. A TEDx talk that year and a large amount of media attention also helped propel his discovery forward.
