AS director and principal ecologist of Biologic Environmental Survey (Biologic), Morgan O’Connell has undertaken more than 200 environmental field surveys throughout Western Australia, combining his extensive knowledge of fauna ecology with state and federal approvals processes.
Mr O’Connell started Biologic in 2007 at the age of 25. Having worked as a sub-contractor for larger environmental consultancies, Mr O’Connell recognised the opportunity to grow his business following a move to Newman in the Pilbara region.
While the region hosted a number of iron ore mining operations, Mr O’Connell realised there were no local environmental consultancies in the area and saw the potential.
The contacts he made during this time were invaluable and the business soon took on enough work to employ eight people and six regular subcontractors. Today, the business works with some of WA’s largest companies and has many award-winning scientists on staff.
Next for Biologic is an expansion into vegetation rehabilitation, followed by soil and landform rehabilitation.
Biologic donates regularly to the Wildness Society and the Australian Paralympic Committee and contributes to the broader scientific community by making the information gained through research publicly available.
