A background in IT was the perfect grounding for John Bishop to develop his website PetRescue.com.au, the idea for which came during time spent doing volunteer work at an animal shelter.
PetRescue.com.au receives 15,000 visitors each day and works with pet shelters and rescue groups across Australia to find new homes for abandoned pets. It has become one of Australia’s most visited charity websites, saving the lives of more than 4,000 animals each month.
A member of the Internet Society, Australian Web Industry Association and .au Domain Administration, Mr Bishop manages the online presence PetRecuse – including the primary website, social media channels, campaign websites and advertising. He also coordinates the financial aspects of the business and helps manage corporate partnerships.
Mr Bishop was approached by the RSPCA in 2009 to build tools that automatically list pets in RSPCA facilities on the PetRescue website. These listings are updated hourly and have helped RSPCA shelters around Australia significantly increase resettlement rates.
Mr Bishop also runs a boutique IT consulting company Think Lateral.
Mr Bishop is 2014 40under40 People’s Choice winner and received the City of Perth Strategic Alliance Award.
