Michael Malone is a technology entrepreneur and company director.
He was the former managing director of ASX-listed telecommunications company iiNet, which he founded in 1993 fresh out of university in the garage of his parents' home in suburban Perth and continued as CEO until his retirement in 2014.
Mr Malone was awarded the 2011 Australian Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, 2009 CEO of the Year in the Australian Telecom Awards, and First Amongst Equals in the 2006 Business News 40under40 awards.
Mr Malone sits on multiple boards as a non-executive director including Seven West Media, NBN Co and WiseTech.
Mr Malone’s former directorships include Autism West (as founder and vice chair), the .au Domain Administration (as a founder and chair), Diamond Cyber Security (as a founder and chair), Hong Kong-based satellite service provider SpeedCast, Scitech, Axicom Group and Down Under Geosolutions (DUG) and Superloop.
Mr Malone has received a number of prestigious industry recognitions including 2012 Australian Entrepreneur of the Year, Communications Alliance Ambassador, and the Telecommunications Society’s Charles Todd Medal. Mr Malone is a past member of the Commonwealth Consumer Affairs Advisory Council and the WA State Training Board.
