Smooth sailing for Gage Roads
THE founders of Gage Roads Brewing Co expect to produce their first batch of beer by September this year following the recent completion of a $2.5 million capital raising.
Arriving in Western Australia 10 years ago with a political science degree and experience with the US Government on Capitol Hill, Peter Nolin chose brewing as his next career move. He educated himself on the finer points of brewing science and began his new trade with the iconic Sail & Anchor Hotel in Fremantle. Throwing himself into the job, he advanced quickly and became an outspoken advocate for the industry. The decision to leave the Sail & Anchor was not taken lightly, however, and it was with the full support of his family that he decided to establish his own business. Raising the capital to fund Gage Roads Brewing Co rates as his most significant business achievement. He put his own savings as seed capital into developing a comprehensive business plan and led a private equity capital raising to fund the venture, all while gaining a deeper understanding of the industry. A self-taught brewer, Mr Nolin has won more than 30 awards in international competition, including 12 gold medals, five best in class and three championship awards. He is be a public speaker and mentor for young brewers around Australia.
