Phylogica spins out to market
The first spin-off from the Telethon Child Health Institute is heading to the Australian Stock Exchange seeking to raise $5 million from the issue of 25 million 20-cent shares.
Dr Paul Watt has a 30-year track record in the biomedical sector, having worked or studied in Australia, the UK and the US.
He is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research and an adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia. He received his doctorate from Oxford University and was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University and Oxford University.
Dr Watt is a recipient of a number of important research honours and awards, and has numerous scientific publications to his name for biomedical methods and inventions. He holds 25 therapeutics and medical device patents, including a device which was marketed globally.
With 16 years as an executive in the biotech/biomedical device sector, he was the founder of Phylogica/PYC Therapeutics (ASX:PYC) which he helped take public in 2005. He was chief executive of Phylogica from 2009-2013 prior to being its chief scientific officer from 2013 and non-executive director from 2016.
In 2003, Dr Watt won a Business News 40under40 Award.
