At 29 years of age, and with a newborn baby and a two-year old, Dr Neda Varan decided she wanted to run her own medical practice. Canning Vale Medical Practice has since survived the medical industry’s corporatisation and not given in to the temptation to sell out during a time of difficult trading conditions for small operators. Dr Varan’s practice employs three other doctors, nurses and support staff, and was one the first in the region to obtain accreditation by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Varan is also a director of the Canning Division of General Practice and represents 300 GPs in her region, addressing the health needs of 300,000 people. In 2003 Dr Varan won a Business News 40under40 Award.
