With a background in newspapers, radio and magazines that began in 1981, Martin Black has worked for a number of leading newspapers and magazines in Australia and overseas. In 1987 he joined a corporate public relations consultancy as a partner in the firm and then in June 1991 he formed his own firm Corporate Communications (WA) Pty Ltd to service a growing niche in the corporate public relations sector. In addition to his wealth of experience in the media and public relations industry, Martin has had extensive direct experience in the corporate sector, as a consultant to several investment companies. He also sits on the board of Ngala Family Resource Centre and several private companies. While Mr Black’s background is primarily in the media and public relations industry, in 1999 he started The Margaret River Chocolate Company with childhood friend Patrick Coward. The Margaret River Chocolate Company is now one of Western Australia’s most recognised and iconic tourism brands and destinations with over one million visitors each year. It has factories in both Margaret River and the Swan Valley wine regions, a concept store in Perth City and a sister business Margaret River Providore, which has two outlets and a Margaret River winery. In 2003 Mr Black won a Business News 40under40 Award.
