Gary Cox is an intellectual property lawyer, solicitor and barrister; an Australian patent and trade marks attorney; and a New Zealand patent attorney.
Mr Cox started in the IP profession in 1990 as an Examiner of Patents with the Australian Patent Office (now IP Australia). In 1991, he moved to Sydney and took up a position with a then leading Sydney-based IP firm.
Mr Cox joined Wrays in 1994 and became chair in 2010. He acts predominantly in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, with a focus on advising startup companies and SMEs on their strategic IP developments. Mr Cox also provides advice on the freedom to operate, due diligence opinions, handles contentious matters such as patent litigation (infringement and revocation actions) and oppositions in Australia, and work with NZ litigators to deliver the same outcome in New Zealand.
In April 2021 Mr Cox was appointed chair of Life Sciences WA, a newly-launched industry association which includes representatives from government, universities, research institutions and corporates.
