Rio chooses local business with a great story
Karratha based business, PLI, has been awarded a three-year contract with Rio Tinto to service 22 mine-sites across the Pilbara.
After graduating as an engineer from the University of Western Australia, Richard Cohen moved to the Pilbara region to gain some hands-on experience.
He joined Rio Tinto in April 2003 and was general manager of railways in June 2006, which led a major change within the railways division of Rio Tinto converting it from a critical state to an organisation that is exceeding all key business metrics. His success has seen him progress to general manager by age 35. Mr Cohen has since held senior executive roles including as managing director of project services & AutoHaul, managing director of borates & lithium in California, before returning to Perth as managing director of port, rail & core services for iron ore division in September 2020.
