ANYONE who has started a business knows how tough it can be, even when the product sells itself and people are queuing around the block to become clients.
Dr Tracy Westerman is a clinical psychologist and Nyamal woman from the Pilbara. Dr Westerman founded Indigenous Psychological services in 1998. She has also founded the not-for-profit Westerman Jilya Institute for Indigenous Mental Health Aboriginal Corporation in 2020.
Dr Westerman has a Post Graduate Diploma (Science, University of WA) in Psychology, a Masters Degree (Clinical Psychology, Curtin University) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Clinical Psychology).
She is widely sought after as a keynote speaker in Australia and has also been an invited international keynote speaker on FIVE separate occasions in Canada (2003), USA (2004), Auckland, New Zealand (2006 & 2007) and Wellington (2009).
Dr Westerman was awarded Western Australia’s Australian of the Year for 2018 and was recognised for spending over two decades working to reduce the burden of mental ill health and suicide in Aboriginal communities.
In 2021, Dr Westerman was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the Indigenous community in mental health and suicide prevention.
