Joanne Beedie’s personal trauma inspired her co-founding the charity Helping Little Hands, which supports families of premature babies. After the loss of a child at 21 weeks and giving birth to his identical twin 27 weeks premature, Ms Beedie saw a need to empower and enable families, by providing a practical support network and advocacy. Helping Little Hands provides a range of services, including well-being events, travel support and home support. Ms Beedie is a member of the Family Integrated Care Implementation Committee at both King Edward Memorial Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital. Through this work she has helped drive cultural and operational change in the care programs of these hospitals, delivering better medical outcomes and parental empowerment.
