Daniel Morrison, a Noongar/Yamatji man, is passionate about empowering Aboriginal communities.
As chief executive of Wungening Aboriginal Corporation, Mr Morrison has significantly improved its staff retention rate, governance and impact. He has tripled the workforce from 22 to 72 staff, including 70 per cent Aboriginal staff, and increased revenue from $2.7 to $10 million. By expanding the organisation, Mr Morrison has increased the number of people who receive its services from 500 to 1,540 per year. The Wungening Corporation’s refuge for women and children is now the largest refuge in the state, and is the only Aboriginal-owned and managed refuge in the metropolitan area. Mr Morrison plans to expand the organisation further and establish the first Aboriginal-specific family rehabilitation centre in the metropolitan and South West regions of WA.
He received the NAIDOC Outstanding Achiever award in 2016, and was a recipient of a Business News 40under40 award in 2018. Mr Morrison was also named West Australian Entrepreneur Of The Year at EY's 2019 Entrepreneur Of The Year Western Region awards.
