Rick Musarra established Goldfields Crane Hire in 1994, and took Craig O’Donnell on board as a business partner in 2005. The business later moved into the state’s north-west, the Northern Territory and Perth, and changed its name to Cranecorp Australia in 2014.
Cranecorp Australia specialises in shut down and maintenance lift services across the mining and resources, oil and gas, utility, renewables and manufacturing sectors; providing wet hire, dry hire and specialist labour hire services.
The business made more than $10 million in acquisitions in the four years to June 2018, buying Geraldton company MRM Crane Hire in 2014 and assets from Canning Vale-based Force Cranes in 2018. The largest was the purchase of assets from Port Hedland business Gravity Cranes in 2017.
In 2018, Cranecorp won Business News' Rising Stars Awards in the Medium Business category.
In May 2020, Viburnum Funds acquired a majority shareholding in Cranecorp.
