Virgin Australia is one of the country’s major airlines. It started trading in Australia as Virgin Blue in 2000 and became Virgin Australia in 2011. It acquired Perth-based Skywest Airlines in 2013, forming the basis for Virgin Australia Regional Airlines.
Virgin Australia is a major provider of both passenger and charter FIFO services across WA, servicing 16 FIFO locations and 21 ports in total across WA.
In April 2020, Virgin Australia was the first major casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic when it entered into administration. It was later sold to US-based investment firm Bain Capital in September 2020.
