Hofmann receives $5m government grant
Bassendean-based Hofmann Engineering has been awarded a $5 million grant in the first round offers of the federal government's $27.7 million Climate Ready program.
Founded by Munich-born brothers Johann and Erich Hofmann a decade after they arrived in WA, Hofmann Engineering is a third-generation family business which provides specialist engineering services to Australia’s industry leaders. It made its name turning out precision tools, valves and pumps, bearings, food packaging and aerospace parts, but in recent years it has focused on gearing for mineral processing plants and wind turbines.
In 2010, Hofmann Engineering bought the Melbourne-based Metaltec Precision International, a preferred supplier of production tooling for the rear fuselage, tailplane and twin vertical stabilisers for the Joint Strike Fighter which came with a 13,000 sqm facility. The following year, it established itself in Bendigo, resuming production at the old Commonwealth ordnance and heavy engineering plant ( 20,000 m2 of factory space with crane lift capacities up to 100t with 17.25m under the crane hook) which it bought from from Thales Australia.
In 2015 it bought the Goninans Heavy Engineering Facility in Newcastle, NSW, from Falk Australia. It is a 5000sqm manufacturing facility is one of the largest capacity heavy engineering facilities on the East coast for components up to 14m and including Falk Mill Gearing products. It has offices in several overseas locations.
In February 2019, Hofmann Engineering was one of 6 Western Australian companies listed in the 2019 Australian Military Sales Catalogue which promotes Australian defence industry products and services that are available for international customers to purchase.
