Rhodes family joins rich list
A low-profile WA family that has amassed a $300 million fortune from iron ore royalties has come to prominence by developing a head office in West Perth.
D.F.D. Rhodes Pty Ltd is a Perth-based family company with interests in iron ore royalties, agriculture and investments.
It was established in 1950 by Donovan Frances Duncan (Don) Rhodes, who was an earthmoving, trucking and mining contractor. Mr Rhodes was also involved in discovering some of the Pilbara’s largest iron ore deposits.
The company moved out of contracting in the early 1970s and into agriculture. It produces wool and lamb, along with beef, canola, barley and oats, with farms spanning 36,000 acres.
It is still family-owned.
