Hancock Prospecting is an Australian company led by Gina Rinehart that has a long association with the Pilbara and the iron ore sector.
It is the majority owner of the Roy Hill iron ore mine, 100% owner of Atlas Iron, a 50% stake in the Hope Downs joint venture with Rio Tinto, and extensive pastoral interests & a shareholding in Bannister Downs Dairy.
Since the discovery of iron ore by the company’s founder Lang Hancock in 1952, a progression of 10 world class iron ore mines (the first Tom Price in 1966) have been developed from original Hancock discoveries.
