Austin Engineering is a leading designer and manufacturer of customised dump truck bodies, buckets and ancillary products used in the mining industry. It is also a complete service provider, offering on- and off-site repair and maintenance and heavy equipment lifting services including miners, mining contractors and original equipment manufacturers.
The company was originally founded in 1982 by Ron and Gloria Austin. After a period of growth and expansion, Austin was acquired by West Australian Metals Ltd in 2003 as a reverse takeover and listed on the ASX the following year. In the same year, it acquired Perth-based John’s Engineering & Cranes Pty Ltd (JEC), one of Australia’s longest established manufacturers of mining and earthmoving attachments and off-highway truck bodies.
In 2006, it acquired Kaldura Industries (a heavy engineering business located at Mackay, Central Queensland); in 2007, it added two other businesses (Austbore in Mackay and Western Technology Services in Casper, Wyoming USA). Other acquisition include Conymet Ltd in Antofagasta, Chile in 2009; WA-based Pilbara Hire Group, COR Cooling Group and Hunter Valley-based Phillips Engineering in 2010; V&V at Calama in Chile in 2011 as well as three new manufacturing factories - Austin Indonesia at Batam Island, Austin Ingenieros Colombia, and Austin Engineering Peru; Servigrut in Chile in 2013.
In 2021, Austin Engineering relocated its headquarters from Brisbane to Perth due to the significance of the Western Australian and Asian operations, which are the largest contributor to the company's profit.
