The Chamber of Arts and Culture WA has announced a new chairperson and the departure of Janet Holmes a Court from its board.
The Chamber of Arts and Culture WA has announced Phil Thick as its new chairperson, replacing Helen Cook at the end of her term in September.
In addition, the Chamber also announced that the board's founding director Janet Holmes a Court would step down as deputy chair, a role in which she has served since 2010.
Commenting on the moves, Ms Cook said Mr Thick was well known for his support of the arts and culture industries in WA and that his insight would benefit the Chamber's membership, and thanked Ms Holmes a Court for her contributions to the Chamber in the past decade.
"The success of the Chamber model rests in its ability to bring the creative industries, the corporate sector and the government sector together to promote the value that arts and culture brings to our society and our economy," she said.
"Phil works at the forward edge of the WA economy and will have much to add to the discussion about how we want to develop our state going forward."
Ms Cook was a founding board member of the Chamber, and was previously chair of the Art Gallery of WA. She has served as deputy chair of the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia since 2017, and was a partner at KPMG between 1997 and 2013.
Mr Thick is currently chair of Perth Symphony Orchestra, and has previously chaired not-for-profit Avivo and served as a board member of the Esperance Port Authority and the Disability Services Commission. He is also general manager of Tianqi Lithium Australia.
"I’m looking forward to working with the board and the Chamber membership to realise the sector’s strategic goals," said Mr Thick.
"I’ve been an enthusiastic patron of the arts for many years and can see the huge potential offered by this sector and the impact we can have on the WA community."
In a statement, executive director Shelagh Magadza said she was grateful for the leadership and support that Ms Cook and Ms Holmes a Court had brought to the Chamber, and that she was excited to work with Mr Thick in the coming years.
