New artistic director for PIAF
Shelagh Magadza has been appointed as artistic director of the UWA Perth International Arts Festival, replacing Lindy Hume whose final of four festivals ends in March next year.
New Zealand born and Zimbabwean-raised, Shelagh Magadza spent 10 years at the Perth International Arts Festival culminating in her role as artistic director between 2006 and 2011. Since then, she has held the same role at the New Zealand International Arts Festival. In October 2018, Ms Magadza joined the Chamber of Arts & Culture WA as executive director before becoming an executive director of the culture and the arts at the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries in December 2021.
In addition to her artistic credentials, Ms Magadza has also held roles in arts governance, administration, advisory and logistics. From March to September 2011, she was commissioned by the WA government to run the CHOGM Cultural Festival.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and a Masters in International Relations.
