Isak Buitendag has significant experience in executive roles within the mining industry in Australia, Kazakhstan and Africa. He has led teams in project development and minerals processing.
Mr Buitendag was appointed chief executive of Salt Lake Potash in September 2021. Prior to that, he was the general manager of transformation at Kazzinc (69.7% owned by Glencore) as well as vice president of operations & vice president of development at Kazchrome, the largest ferrochrome producer in the world. Mr Buitendag also spent almost 6 years with Fortescue Metals Group as general manager of Cloudbreak and Christmas Creek; director of external relations; and director of health, safety, environment and security. He held several key operations and business development senior leadership roles with BHP Billiton in Western Australia, South Africa and the Netherlands.
Mr Buitendag holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Natal in South Africa, and a Master of Business Leadership from the University of South Africa.
