The Shire of Gnowangerup is situated in the Great Southern area, 354 kilometres southeast of Perth and 140 kilometres north of Albany.

It includes the suburbs of Amelup, Borden, Cowalellup, Gnowangerup, Jackitup, Kebaringup, Magitup, Mills Lake, Mindarabin, Monjebup, Nalyerlup, North Stirlings, Ongerup, Pallinup, Stirling Range National Park, and Toompup.
