New name for tantalum miner
Talison Tantalum today announced that the company would be renamed Global Advanced Metals, as it focuses on resuming its mining operations in Western Australia.
Global Advanced Metals (GAM) is an integrated supplier of tantalum products. The company produces many forms of tantalum and niobium metals and their alloys, for use in electronics, aerospace, automotive and chemical processing. In WA it processes tantalum raw material at its Greenbushes mine, and in addition it buys tantalum raw material from conflict-free sources globally. GAM has processing facilities at Boyertown in the US and Aizu in Japan, which it bought in 2011 from US-based Cabot Supermetals. GAM was formerly known as Talison Tantalum, and adopted its current form when its tantalum operations were separated from the then Talison Minerals to create a new and distinct company focused specifically on metals for the future. In 2016, GAM sold its Wodgina operations in the Pilbara to Mineral Resources, with the exception of the tantalum resource which GAM retained. Its majority shareholder is private equity group Resource Capital Funds.
