Getting Aboriginal girls back to school
A netball-based education and community initiative is helping Aboriginal girls to shoot for the stars.
Glass Jar Australia is the charity arm of Netball WA and was established in 2015.
The charity’s core initiative is the Shooting Stars program, run in collaboration with Netball WA and funded in the main by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, it uses netball as a vehicle, among other activities, to encourage greater engagement and attendance at school of young Aboriginal girls living in WA’s remote communities and regional towns. There are more than 260 students engaged in the program across six delivery sites: Derby, Meekatharra, Wiluna, Carnarvon, Halls Creek and Mullewa.
Glass Jar is funded by the federal government through the indigenous advancement strategy and is actively pursuing opportunities to build corporate sponsor partnerships.
