Kate West has been appointed co-chair for Arup Australasia. Ms West has worked at Arup for the past 18 years, as a senior associate, principal and more recently as consulting WA group leader. She has served on Arup Australasia region board since April 2019.
DLA Piper has hired James Nicholls to partner of its Australian Corporate Group in its Perth office. Mr Nicholls is a lateral hire from Allen & Overy, where he was a special counsel specialising in mergers and acquisitions and corporate law, ECM transactions and head office regulatory advice. Outside of private practice, Mr Nicholls has co-founded the UWA Law School’s mergers and acquisitions course and the corporate control forum.
Jack Collard and Derry Simpson have been appointed to the Youth Focus board. Ms Simpson is the head of brand and strategic communications at Telethon Kids Institute. Mr Collard is a Whadjuk-Ballardong Nyoongar man who is a co-facilitator of the Boorloo Indigenous Youth Yarning Circle and a member of Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia’s Suicide Prevention Action Plan Steering Committee. He is also an elected member of the global steering committee for the United Nations Global Indigenous Youth Caucus.
Diabetes Research WA has welcomed Emily Clarke to its board. Ms Clarke is the Australian head of disputes for its alternative legal services practice at Herbert Smith Freehills, splitting her time between Perth and Melbourne. She joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 2005, started as a graduate in 2010 and was promoted to senior associate in 2015.
3D printing company AML3D has appointed Hamish McEwin as chief financial officer. Mr McEwin most recently worked at manufacturing company Legend Corporation. Prior to his 12 years at Legend, he held positions as senior manager audit and assurance services at Grant Thornton and associate director audit and corporate advisory at Hayes Knight.
