Sky & Space Global continues to make headway in its push to secure more customers for its full constellation of 200 miniature telco satellites that will be launched into space from next year.
The company has now signed a binding MoU with The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, or “OECS”, for the provision of network services to the region.
It comes just weeks after Sky and Space reached a binding MoU with Caribbean internet service provider, Foundation Busie Suriname, that formalises their commercial and technical cooperation.
OECS is an international inter-governmental organisation dedicated to establishing a single financial and economic space where goods, people and capital move freely, monetary and fiscal policies are harmonised and member states adopt a common approach to trade, health, education and the environment.
Under the MoU, Sky and Space will collaborate with OECS to explore how the company’s connectivity platform can be incorporated into the communication infrastructure of OECS member states, to improve and enhance its reliability, accessibility and feasibility.
It includes a commitment by OECS to use a minimum number of devices and services and includes the option to increase the number of devices and services required to meet OECS’ needs.
The connectivity services will be provided by Sky and Space’s proposed network of up to 200 miniature satellites that should be sitting in orbit by the end of next year.
Sky and Space has already proven its nano-satellite technology by launching three pilot units into space that have been successfully tested a number of times now.
Managing Director Meir Moalem said: “Over the last months we have focused on demonstrating our capabilities and building traction in this region, and our efforts have been fruitful.”
OECS Director General Dr. Didacus Jules said: “The OECS is constantly exploring emerging technologies and providers to address the unique connectivity needs of our member territories. We are looking forward to exploring the possibilities with Sky and Space Global’s solutions as part of the OECS’ broader communications resilience and security framework.”
In July, the company successfully demonstrated its three pilot nano-satellites at a roadshow in Georgetown, Guyana.
