Junior gold explorer Kalgoorlie Gold Mining or KalGold has defined strong, continuous gold anomalism bordering the company’s La Mascotte gold prospect, part of its flagship Bulong Taurus gold project 35 kilometres east of Kalgoorlie in WA.
The identified anomalous trend runs for over 2.3km and extends from the Turnpike prospect in the west through La Mascotte and continues eastward, supporting the company’s hypothesis of a large, connected gold system at Bulong Taurus.
A second south-southeast trending anomaly was also intersected that extends over at least 1.8km from the northern end of La Mascotte, through several historical mining areas and continues on in a southerly direction.
In total 400 auger holes were drilled across the Bulong Taurus project targeting virgin exploration territory adjacent to the well-endowed La Mascotte gold prospect.
Auger drilling was all less than 1.5m in depth and incorporated areas of subcrop, regolith and shallow cover. Samples generally return the most accurate results when taken in deeply weathered rock that is largely the case in the west and north of the survey area.
As a general rule, the values were more coherent in the north and west areas and began to diminish in the south and east in conjunction with deeper transported material profiles that could not be effectively penetrated with auger drilling.
The cut-off for anomalous results was set at 40 parts per billion gold and above to coincide with similar programs throughout the Eastern Goldfields province of Western Australia.
Kalgold’s forthcoming drill programs will now be expanded to test the newly identified target areas and the bedrock signatures underneath gold values outlined in the recent program.
Whilst the surface mineralisation footprint has been expanding creating new targets through auger drilling, diamond drilling is due to commence shortly targeting prospective areas of La Mascotte. The diamond campaign aims to gather information around the structural controls at play in the area to guide future programs.
An RC rig is then set to join the party in late April to early May and is tasked with expanding on previous exploration in addition to testing newly identified targets. In addition to Bulong Taurus, RC drilling is also scheduled to start testing targets at the company’s Ninga Mia gold project a stone’s throw from the Super Pit in Kalgoorlie.
Having only listed on the ASX late last year, KalGold has been extremely busy. The company has been regularly striking gold since the first hole drilled and has continued to increase the surface signature in addition to confirming historical mineralisation with each program it gets stuck into.
The newly identified, widespread surface anomalies set the scene for further potential successes for KalGold in the near future from what may be starting to resemble a large-scale gold system at Bulong Taurus.
