Some of the better strikes from historical diamond drilling work at the prospect include 1m at 84.1 grams per tonne gold from 67m, 10m at 39.1 g/t gold from 128m and 2m at 12.41 g/t gold from 149m.
The area around La Mascotte has also seen its fair share of RC drilling. Some of the headline grabbing hits from those historical programs include 4m at 9.07 g/t gold from 118m, 5m at 7.11 g/t gold from 130m, 2m at 7.77 g/t gold from 130m and 1m at 7.31 g/t gold from 87m.
The explorer believes most of the higher-grade hits were achieved at shallow depths of around 120m below surface –meaning the project economics should get a real boost if more gold can be squeezed from the area.
Management says the prospect’s richer zones are open towards both its west and north-western extents and after a structural data review it is believed La Mascotte’s mineralisation is concentrated around the area.
KalGold argues the orientation draws comparisons to regional-scale structures that could control sulphide mineralisation.
The company is now drawing up plans to sink a handful of RC holes to test the down-dip continuity of the gold and the company says if high-grade gold is struck it will all but confirm the zone’s mineralisation is open down-dip – leading to subsequent drill programs which will chase up the discovery.
KalGold has also enlisted the help of resource modelling group Modelling Matters to review historic drill data. The company says initial results of the assessment suggest the data is amenable for inclusion in a future mineral resource at the project.
The explorer sees this as a coup given it alleviates the need for repeat drilling at La Mascotte which frees up funds for supplementary work across the larger Bulong Taurus project.
Kalgoorlie Gold Mining’s MD and CEO, Matthew Painter, said:“KalGold is well advanced in defining the detailed 3D geometry of the La Mascotte gold system. Importantly, the Company’s diligent sourcing of historic drilling and associated data is beginning to pay dividends with modelling indicating that all historic drilling can be incorporated into a new JORC (2012) Resource estimate. This potentially saves KalGold millions of dollars in drilling and assay costs.”
The Perth-based explorer is also ramping up activities across a host of additional gold focused operations.
The work includes a boots on the ground and desktop review of its Pinjin project about 135 km northeast of Kalgoorlie. The program will look to define key target areas along strike of ASX-listed Ramelius Resources’ Rebecca gold project.
Target definition will also be run at the nearby Lake Rebecca operation which takes up a highly prospective land package along strike of Northern Star Resources' Carosue Dam mine and OzAurum’s Mulgabbie North project.
Meanwhile KalGold’s Perrinvale gold project about 80 km west of Leonora an Aboriginal heritage survey will shortly be completed.
The work sets up a flurry of end of year activity for a company who only listed on the local bourse in November last year.
