Perth-based gold explorer, Great Southern Mining, is back in the field at its exciting Cox’s find project near Laverton in WA’s Goldfields for a tenement-wide geochemical air-core drilling campaign to target further Cox’s Find-style mineralised systems. The company will ‘grid-drill’ the entire area with a 100 x 50m spacing to deliver around 500 shallow holes down to 1-6m below surface. Geochem samples will be recovered from the base of each hole for assaying.
The sampling program is designed to obtain a representative, deep soil ‘regolith’ profile and ensure that samples are free from potential contamination in the surface cover. The drill holes aim to get below the surface cover and any hard laterite profiles. Hand samples will be taken in areas of rugged terrain where drill rig access is not possible.
Samples will be analysed for gold and other typical pathfinder elements normally associated with gold mineralisation in the area. The results of this work will be integrated with other geological data sets to identify buried gold prospects that will likely be the target of the next round of deeper exploration drilling around Cox’s Find.
Great Southern announced some exceptional drill results for Cox’s Find back in December 2019 with the best intercept returning an outstanding 5m grading 31.23g/t gold from 134m, including 1m at 143.0g/t gold.
Great Southern Mining Chairman, John Terpu said that: “The Company is excited to be back out in the field and commencing this regional Geochemical Aircore program which we believe will further enhance the geological model which has been improved following the success of our maiden exploration program at the Cox’s Find Project. With less than 10,000m of exploratory drilling completed on this Project in total, this Geochemical program is seen as a crucial step to assist with our targeting of the near-mine extensional drilling aiming to discover further Cox’s Find style mineralized systems. This type of program has not been conducted to this extent over the project area previously and we look forward to updating the market with the results”
Great Southern’s Cox’s Find ground is within 25km of operating mines and mills which opens up a few options for quick and easy cashflow via toll treating if the project continues to throw up good numbers.
