First Quantum to acquire Caravel stake
Global miner First Quantum Minerals is set to purchase a stake in West Perth copper junior Caravel Minerals, adding to its interests in Western Australia.
Martin Rowley has had a distinguished career for over 30 years in the mining industry, being involved in the financing and development of several successful mines.
After starting his career as an accountant working in both Australia and England, Mr Rowley worked as executive assistant to the board of directors of a large Australian public company from 1980 to 1984. He then established his own resource consulting and investment company and was involved as a shareholder, director and chair of several Australian public resource companies before co-founding First Quantum Minerals in 1996. Mr Rowley served as First Quantum’s chief financial officer and director until January 2007, when he assumed the role of executive director for business development.
He is also non-executive chair and director of Forsys Metals, a Toronto Stock Exchange-listed company in the uranium sector; and a non-executive director of Galaxy Resources, an Australia Stock Exchange-listed company.

Global miner First Quantum Minerals is set to purchase a stake in West Perth copper junior Caravel Minerals, adding to its interests in Western Australia.
Shares in General Mining Corporation have skyrocketed by over 700 per cent on news it was granted the right to solely operate Galaxy Resources’ Mt Cattlin tantalum project near Ravensthorpe, in exchange for $7.5 million in lease fees and a 10 per cent production royalty.
Perth miner Galaxy Resources has announced plans to merge with joint venture partner General Mining Corporation to create a larger lithium-focused company, in a deal worth $216 million.
Peter Bacchus and John Turner have joined the board of Galaxy Resources, while Perth-based Craig Burton has been appointed to the board of NSW company Atrum Coal.
Shares in Galaxy Resources have surged after the lithium miner announced a $US280 million ($A371 million) asset sale deal with South Korean giant Posco.
