The mining giant says it’s about heritage, but the new moniker for its less-loved assets shows the management team has plenty of latitude.
Brendan Harris is a senior mining executive with more than a decade's experience at the higest level of the sector in WA. Prior to becoming chief executive of Sandfire Resources in 2023, Mr Harris was a member of South32’s executive management team for more than eight years. He joined South32 in May 2015 as chief financial officer before becoming chief marketing officer in 2019, chief commercial officer in January 2020, and chief human resources and commercial officer in October 2020.
Prior to joining South32, Mr Harris was head of investor relations at BHP Billiton and, before that, held various roles in investment banking for almost over a decade, including as executive director of Macquarie Equities where he led the metals & mining research team.
During his early career as an exploration geologist, Mr Harris was involved in iron ore exploration in the Pilbara region of Western Australia with Robe River Iron Associates and gold and base metals exploration in the Gawler Craton in South Australia.
