Alan Flavelle graduated with a BSc from University of Western Australia, major in physics and sub-majors in mathematics and geology. Mr Flavelle has been employed by, and been a consultant to, government and private industry in energy resource development. From 1958 to 1968, Mr Flavelle was a geophysicist at Bureau of Mineral Resources, a federal government agency, and worked in Australia, New Guinea, Canada and USA. From 1969 to 1970, Mr Flavelle was employed by West Australian Petroleum, a Perth-based affiliate of Chevron Corporation, as an exploration geologist in oil exploration activities in Western Australia. In 1971, he became senior partner in the Layton Group, the largest earth science consulting group based in Australia at that time, and he worked on resource projects in Australia, New Guinea, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, India, America and Argentina. From 1981 onwards, Mr Flavelle became an independent consultant, resource developer and adviser to companies at the technical director level. He was chair of Greenpower Energy, principal geological and technical consultant as well as chief technology officer until 2016, and continues to provide ongoing resource, technical and market advice to Greenpower.
