TADWA was originally founded in 1984 by volunteers who modified telephones for the vision and hearing impaired, and affiliated with TAD Australia in 1986. The organisation now has offices in Bassendean and Bunbury from which it provides solutions which allow persons with disabilities, the elderly, and their carers achieve more independence in their lives. The majority of TADWA's funding comes through the State Government-funded Home and Community Care (HACC) program, which provides funding to people of all ages with a disability and their carers to assist them to continue living independently at home.
