Stone Axe Pastoral Company’s name is derived from the Western Australian town Kojonup, which is named after the aboriginal word for stone axe. Stone Axe Pastoral is an ultra-premium beef company with a vertically integrated fullblood Wagyu production enterprise. The company has wagyu farms in NSW and WA. In 2017, Roc Partners, a spin-off of Macquarie Group’s private markets business, bought a majority shareholding in the business for an undisclosed amount. The investment was to help fund Stone Axe’s $100 million program to build its ultra premium wagyu beef cattle enterprise at the 3000ha Cheviot Hills property near Kojonup.
