Kailis Bros was once one of Australia’s largest seafood & food organisations, and one of WA's best known family businesses, before majority ownership of the seafood business was sold to China-based Legend Holdings in 2016. Hong Kong-listed Legend Holdings, the owner of computing brand Lenovo, owns the seafood business via its food and agribusiness subsidiary Joyvio. The Kailis Bros Group operated at all levels of the supply chain from catching, to processing, manufacturing, importing, exporting, wholesaling and retailing. Only the Kailis Bros Leederville café and fish shop and the Perth Fish Markets, trading as AJ Langford Pty Ltd remains 100 per cent owned and operated by the Kailis family. The Kailis Bros business dates back to 1926, when George Peter Kailis, who migrated to Australia from the Greek island of Kastellorizo in 1914, established a retail fish shop.
He had four sons, who have all made their mark in WA business.
One of these sons, Michael Kailis, took over the retail fish shop, which evolved into Kailis Bros.
