KB Australia is a seafood producer and exporter that was formed in 2016 when it bought the Kailis Bros business. It is owned by China-based, Hong Kong-listed Legend Holdings, the owner of computing brand Lenovo. Legend owns the seafood business via its food and agribusiness subsidiary Joyvio.
The Kailis Bros business dates back to 1926, when George Palassis Kailis, who migrated to Australia from the Greek island of Kastellorizo in 1914, established a retail fish shop. He had four sons, who have all made their mark in WA business. Michael Kailis took over the retail fish shop, which evolved into Kailis Bros. He also had four sons who ran the business until the sale of the seafood wholesale/export business to Legend while the family retained the the retail trading operations and the brand Kailis Bros.
