CIMIC Group (formerly Leighton Holdings) is one of the world’s leading international contractors. The group consists of subsidiaries CPB Contractors (formerly Leighton Contractors), Thiess, Sedgman, Pacific Partnerships, and EIC Activities. CIMIC also wholly owns Perth-based construction company Broad (through CPB Contractors), and has a 45% investment in the Habtoor Leighton Group, a 59.11% investment in Devine, and a 50% investment in Ventia.
Leighton was founded in 1949 and listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 1962. CIMIC has been majority owned by German construction company HOCHTIEF since 2001. In 2014 HOCHTIEF increased its holding to more than 70% in a proportional takeover deal. After the sale of John Holland in April 2015, the company changed its name to CIMIC Group and restructured its subsidiaries into distinct sectors (eg. Leighton Contractors absorbed the construction operations of Thiess, which became solely devoted to contract mining).
