In July 2020, Sydney-based First State Super announced a merger with WA Super. First State was founded in 1992 to provide for the superannuation and retirement needs of NSW public sector employees and their families. In 2011, First State merged with Health Super to create one of Australia’s largest super funds.
In mid-September 2020, First State Super rebranded as Aware Super following its merger with VicSuper.
In December 2020, Aware Super officially merged with WA Super and all its members became Aware Super members from 4 December 2020. At the time of completion, Aware Super was the second-largest superannuation fund in the country.
