Ability WA was originally established in 1951 as the Spastic Welfare Association. It was established by a group of dedicated parents who wished to provide support and services for their own children that were diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP).
In 1992 the name The Cerebral Palsy Association of Western Australia Ltd was formally adopted, changing to The Centre for Cerebral Palsy in 2007, Ability Centre in 2015 and Ability WA in 2021.
