Starting as a small Goldfields fabrication workshop in Kambalda in 1970, the locally owned and operated company, with locations in all major mining regions of Western Australia, has grown to an established multi-disciplinary engineering company.
Over its 50-plus years of operation, CPC Engineering has gained an industry-wide reputation for the design, fabrication, construction, and maintenance of mining-related infrastructure projects.
CPC’s highly skilled team of 350 people has expertise in delivering safe, practical and costeffective end-to-end mining and infrastructure services and solutions across a wide range of commodities.
With rigorous processes and systems in place to run business operations and projects as efficiently as possible, CPC has retained its agility to respond quickly and effectively to changing project requirements and client needs.
Glen Weir, CPC Engineering’s CEO, stands by the company’s reputation to get the job done right the first time.
“We have developed a wealth of minerals processing, NPI, and underground infrastructure expertise that spans the entire value chain, from design, plant construction, sustaining capital works, construction, maintenance, and project delivery. This is all underpinned by our sophisticated business systems giving us seamless integration of design and project delivery,” he said.
CPC boasts an established network of integrated workshops and design facilities strategically located in the major mining regions of WA, including Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Albany, Port Hedland, and Karratha.
“Our skilled team has experience on major mine sites across the Pilbara for tier-one operators, including Woodside and BHP, and can work under either CPC or client systems,” Mr Weir said.CPC’s Karratha division is a trusted local partner in the region, supporting local projects with locally employed people undertaking work in their communities, with 30 staff on the ground supported by Perth-based staff and a network of approved local sub-contractors.
The Karratha division is meeting an increasing need to deliver a comprehensive range of trade services, project management, sustaining capital works and maintenance services to major and mid-tier companies across multiple sectors within the region.
Helping to build capabilities in the coastal regions of the Pilbara, CPC recently launched its new Indigenous joint venture company, Birndirri, formed out of a partnership with Koorbee Group, leveraging Koorbee’s local cultural knowledge and supported by CPC’s Perth-based engineering design team with the capability to cover all project stages.
“We can develop and deploy maintenance strategies that aim to ensure optimal efficiency, smooth plant operation and consistent production. We can provide solutions to lower operating costs, extend asset life, reduce the risk of unplanned outages, improve reliability, and improve your environmental footprint,” Mr Weir said.
With the principles of sustainability embedded in all aspects of the business, CPC has a whole-company focus to achieve and exceed best-practice benchmarks across health and safety, environmental, social and governance performance.
“While safety starts with robust processes and compliance, it is a culture of safety that works to reach the core of our people. We take a zero-harm approach, and we are committed to achieving the highest possible standard in the pursuit of this goal,” Mr Weir said.
CPC’s commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and work practices that support achieving a zero-harm culture is promoted through its Safer by Choice program, a senior leadership-led behavioural safety program. “Safer by Choice supports our belief that all incidents are preventable and that no task is so important that it cannot be done safely.”
Mr Weir acknowledges its people are the greatest asset to the company. “People are the heart and soul of our business. That’s why we work hard to attract highly skilled and talented people, hire locally, invest in training and maintain family values while growing and adapting to the needs of our clients,” he said.
“We have a strong track record in exceeding client expectations, and we work hard to ensure we retain our inclusive culture, where people care about each other, care about our clients and care about the end results.”
CPC’s growth and success can be attributed to building long-standing relationships with clients based on trust and respect. “We work to gain a strong understanding of our client’s priorities and challenges to deliver bespoke, practical and cost-effective solutions to meet their specific requirements,” Mr Weir said.
“We are proud of what we have achieved over the last 50 years and continue to develop and grow in order to support our clients in gaining the most value from their projects.”
